ational Savings Bank is the premier Licensed Specialized Bank in Sri Lanka owned by the Govt. of Sri Lanka. It is the only bank whose deposits are fully guaranteed by the Govt. of Sri Lanka as expressed explicitly in the statute governing the Bank: ‘The repayment of the monies deposited in the bank and of the interest thereon and the payment due on the surrender of a savings certificate shall be guaranteed by the Government of Sri Lanka.’ (NSB Act No.30 of 1971, Section 18: Guarantee by the Government of Sri Lanka)

National Savings Bank was established by amalgamating 4 savings institutions one of which was Ceylon Savings Bank that commenced mobilization of savings in Sri Lanka in1832, just 2 decades after a Scottish local Parish Minister called Dr. Henry Duncan started world’s first savings movement in 1810 in Scotland. With that beginning, we have won the trust of people and come a long way to lead the country’s rupee savings market .
