S.D. Ramali, an Indonesian citizen, who initiated the opening of Indonesia’s Information Office during the physical revolution, then by the Goverment of The Republic of Indonesia was appointed as Secretary of the Legation, which opened in around 1950.

Governments of The Republic of Indonesia and Sri Lanka opened diplomatic relations on August 2, 1952 and raised Mr. Maimun Habsyah as Chargé A.I. then in 1954 to 1957, the government of the Republic of Indonesia raised Mr. John de Fretes as Ambassador. After that in 1956 to 1957 The Ambassador is Mr. Surjanata Djumena. In 1959 to 1961 The Ambassador is Mr. Harun Fadil.

So since 1962, the Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to Sri Lanka increased to EMBASSY. For those reasons, on September 2, 1975, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Maldives opened diplomatic relations and representatives at the level of embassies. While the representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Maldives held by Indonesian Embassy to Sri Lanka in Colombo.
