Hambantota is in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. If traveling from Galle, Hambantota is 122 kilometers to the south, and 45 kilometers from the Rajapakse Airport in Mattala. Hambantota is in close proximity to both Bandula National Park and the Yala National Park. In ancient times, Hambantota was referred to as Ruhuna. It had a flourishing civilization and the region was blessed with stunning irrigation network and fertile fields.
Travel Options from Colombo to Hambantota
When traveling from Colombo to Hambantota by bus, the journey takes approximately 6 hours and 10 minutes and will cost tourists between Rupees 270 and 660.

Self Driven Vehicle
If you are driving a vehicle up to Hambantota it would still be a comfortable ride, however, less expensive than traveling by taxi. There are 2 routes of travel to Hambantota, one is the longer route by Galle Road which offers tourists a glimpse of the coast along to Hambantota, but can take up to 7 hours. The other is the shorter route through Ratnapura/Avissawella which can take up to 5 hours.
