The process of obtaining a driving permit for tourists in Sri Lanka is pretty straightforward. It doesn’t take more than a couple of hours to obtain a driving permit once you are in the correct place. The permit allows you to drive the following.
A – Motorcycle engine capacity 100cc
A1 – Motorcycle engine capacity 100cc
B – All cars dual purposes, passengers 8, GVW – 3500kg, trailer 250
G1 – Two wheel tractor with a trailer
However, according to new laws tourists will not be allowed to drive a tuk tuk unless you have a 6 months visa. In this instance you can obtain a license to drive a tuk tuk during your stay in the country.
Documentation Required for Obtaining a License
In order to obtain a driving permit in Sri Lanka for tourists, you must take the following documents which include,
- Photocopies of passport page, current driving permit and photocopies of visa page
- Original driving license from country of origin
- Rupees 1000 to obtain the license
