Honeymooners, if you’re looking for the waited-on-hand-and-foot hotel experience combined with an adrenaline-fuelled safari adventure – this new hotel might be just the ticket.

Located on a pristine stretch of golden sand, Wild Coast Tented Lodge has opened right between the Indian Ocean and the jungle of Sri Lanka‘s Yala National Park.

The property is the third opening from the Sri Lankan family behind Dilmah Tea and the Resplendent Ceylon collection of hotels, and it’s made up of 28 suites. Each is a tented “cocoon” which offers guests panoramic jungle views through double-height glass ceilings – but that’s just the start of it.

When it comes to the interiors, no decadence has been spared. Each tent boasts teak floors, freestanding handmade copper bathtubs and four-poster beds. The aesthetic of the hotel manages to embrace contemporary accents whilst capturing the romance of colonial expedition with upholstered footstools, exposed brass finishes and a dusty cream and mahogany colour palette throughout.

There are four beach-facing suites with private plunge pools and 16 of the property’s suites are clustered around a watering hole where you might just meet some of the wandering wildlife who come daily to drink. Naturally, you can watch them from your own private deck.

For families, there are eight cocoon suites with adjacent ‘urchins’ – meaning parents can have their privacy at night, away from the children.

For the adventurers, you couldn’t really be better located. Expert guides are ready to take you on a private tour of Yala National Park, where you can spot wild elephants, sloth bears and rare Sri Lankan leopards.

Couples can take a long stroll down the beach for sunset, swim in the turquoise water during the heat of the day or climb sand dunes that overlook the Indian Ocean with a cocktail in hand.

And for foodies? Don’t be scared by the thought of being in a ‘resort’. The open-air bamboo-clad bar and restaurant offers a menu that changes daily. Expect nothing less than properly authentic Sri Lankan cuisine.
