A spokesperson from the Railway Control Room said that the four-day uninterrupted train strike had been called off, and services will return to normal as per the scheduled time-tables from this morning.
The authorities took action to ensure that all night mail trains from Colombo Fort set out last night.
The railway trade unions decided to call off the trade union action after a discussion held with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday.
As a result of the strike, the Railway Department incurred a loss of 70 million rupees and the SLTB suffered a loss in excess of Rs. 10 million.
An SLTB spokesperson said that this loss incurred was due to the SLTB providing free transport to train season-ticket holders and an increase in daily mileage covered during the period of the strike.
