This suggests that the Big Three’s investment in themselves is having an effect. Australia, England and India are three of the favourites to win this Champions Trophy, along with South Africa. So the relative lack of investment in other countries, like Sri Lanka, is paying dividends – for the Big Three.
And it is hard to see how ageing bowlers are going to enjoy a sudden upturn in the next three weeks. Sri Lanka’s shock defeat by Scotland in a practice game at Beckenham – although their batsmen did not shine as they should have – was largely the result of their bowlers being taken apart by Kyle Coetzer.
