“2018 Budget to empower private sector” – Mangala Samaraweera tells IFC Director


Minister of Finance and Media, Mangala Samaraweera says that 2018 Budget is aimed at creating a robust, flourishing and modern economy and will focus on a start-up culture of “empowering the private sector”.

The Minister disclosed this during a meeting with the Director for South Asia of the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank, Mengistu Alemayehu, in Washington.

The Minister is in Washington to attend the Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

The discussion was focused on ways and means of enhancing mutual cooperation between Sri Lanka and the IFC to promote private sector contribution to the economic development of Sri Lanka.

Minister Samaraweera commended the cooperation extended by the IFC towards promoting the private sector contribution to the development of the country’s economy at a time where the government has accorded high priority to private sector involvement in the economy by way of Public-Private Partnerships.

Minister Mangala Samaraweera, who is scheduled to present his maiden Budget Speech on 9th of November.
